Overview

The Amantani Kayak Tour is a truly unique adventure on Lake Titicaca, combining paddling, culture, and an overnight stay in the middle of the lake.

The journey begins in Llachon, where you'll paddle toward Amantani Island on the first day, spending the night with a local family right in the heart of Lake Titicaca.

On the second day, you'll kayak toward Taquile Island, known for its rich culture and world-famous textiles. After visiting Taquile, the tour continues to the floating islands of the Uros people before heading back to Puno.

This 2-day Amantani Kayak Tour is, without a doubt, an unforgettable adventure — and one of the best kayaking experiences on Lake Titicaca.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kayak from Llachon to Amantani Island

Kayaking duration: 3 hours · Distance: 10 kilometers
The Amantani Kayak Tour begins at 7:00 AM with hotel pickup in Puno, followed by a transfer to the harbor for a motorboat ride to Llachon. There, you'll meet the kayak team and receive a full safety briefing from a specialized guide before getting fitted with your kayak equipment. You'll then paddle toward Amantani Island, taking in the immensity of Lake Titicaca — a perfect retreat from the noise of the city. Upon arrival, you'll settle into your homestay accommodation on Amantani and enjoy a traditional lunch made with local products, while learning about the island's genuine culture firsthand. In the afternoon, hike up to one of the island's two hilltop temples to watch the sunset over the lake, then return to the local house for dinner. The community organizes an optional small celebration for visitors every evening. Overnight stay at the homestay on Amantani Island.

Day 2: Kayak to Taquile Island and the Floating Islands

Kayaking duration: 3 hours · Distance: 10 kilometers
After breakfast, paddle from Amantani to Taquile Island, enjoying views of the distant, snow-capped mountains across Lake Titicaca on this truly unique journey. On Taquile Island, discover how locals have preserved their culture and ancestral way of life, followed by lunch. Before heading back to Puno, descend the island's 500 steps to the port, then make a stop at the floating reed islands of the Uros people. The Uros use totora reeds for nearly everything in daily life — homes, canoes, fuel, art, and even food — offering a fascinating glimpse into their traditional lifestyle. Optional reed boat rides can be arranged directly with local fishermen. The tour then continues back to Puno, arriving at approximately 4:30 PM.
