Lake Titicaca Tour from Cusco 4 Days

(2 reviews)

Overview

The Lake Titicaca Tour from Cusco 4 Days connects two of southern Peru's most iconic destinations: the ancient Inca capital and the Altiplano highlands surrounding Lake Titicaca. According to Inca mythology, the lake was the birthplace of their civilization, the sacred point of origin from which the founders of Cusco emerged.
Straddling the border between Peru and Bolivia, Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and one of South America's most striking geological features. Its shores hold countless archaeological sites and living traditions that have endured for centuries, offering a very different landscape and culture from the Sacred Valley or Machu Picchu.
This Lake Titicaca Tour from Cusco 4 Days combines an overland journey through the Andes with an extra day on the lake itself, including a homestay with a local family on Amantani Island alongside visits to the floating islands of the Uros and the traditional community of Taquile. The extra time makes this version a better fit for travelers who want genuine contact with rural Altiplano life, not just a quick pass through the main sights.

By approximately 5:00 pm, the group arrives in Puno, where a representative meets you at the bus terminal for transfer to your hotel, along with a detailed briefing and help with luggage and check-in. Walking on the islands feels unusually soft underfoot, and there's time to look inside local homes and visit two of the roughly 70 islands, with optional rides on traditional reed boats.
After a three-hour boat journey, the group reaches Amantani Island, often welcomed by local families who come down the hill to greet new arrivals. Each traveler is paired with a host family for a homestay, starting with a traditional lunch made from local ingredients, followed by an optional football match with residents and a hike to the island's highest point for sunset views.
In the evening, host families dress guests in traditional local costumes for a small community celebration after dinner, offering a rare, close look at Amantani's living traditions.

At the village, travelers can visit a communal cooperative known for its handwoven textiles before lunch at a local restaurant with sweeping views. The descent back to the port covers around 500 steps, followed by a three-hour boat return to Puno, arriving around 1:00 pm.
